Indoor Air Quality

Better Air. Better Living.

From the air you breathe to the comfort you feel, your home’s indoor environment matters. Explore solutions designed to improve ventilation, manage humidity, and reduce selected airborne particles.

Everyday air

Your home’s air is part of everyday comfort.

Everyday life shapes the air inside your home. Knowing what affects it is the first step to improving it.

Cooking

Releases moisture, smoke and fine particles. A range hood vented outdoors helps most.

Cleaning products

Some release chemicals into the air, especially in sprays and air fresheners.

Pets

Add dander and hair that circulate through the home.

Dust

Builds up from everyday life and gets stirred up again as air moves.

Humidity

Too dry in winter feels uncomfortable; too damp encourages condensation and mould.

Ventilation

Tight, efficient homes need a planned supply of fresh air.

Outdoor air

Pollen and, at times, wildfire smoke can find their way inside.

HVAC operation

Your heating and cooling system moves the air, so its filter and upkeep matter.

Solutions

Whole-Home Humidifiers

Comfortable Humidity During Dry Weather.

Adds controlled moisture through your heating system when winter air gets dry, managed by a humidistat.

Whole-Home Air Filtration

Reduce Airborne Particles.

Higher-efficiency filtration at your furnace or air handler captures selected particles, such as dust and pollen, as air circulates.

HRV & ERV Ventilation

Fresh Air. Thoughtful Ventilation.

Brings in outdoor air and exhausts stale air while recovering heat, so you can ventilate without opening windows.

Whole-Home Dehumidifiers

Take Control of Excess Moisture.

Removes excess moisture from damp homes and basements automatically, to a level you set.

UV Air Treatment

Targeted UV Technology for HVAC Systems.

UV-C lamps inside your HVAC system can limit microbial growth on illuminated surfaces such as the cooling coil.

Working together

How air quality solutions work together.

Each solution does one job well. Filtration captures particles, ventilation exchanges stale air for fresh, and humidity control keeps moisture in a comfortable range. UV can treat surfaces inside the HVAC system, and regular HVAC maintenance keeps everything working as designed.

A ventilator brings in fresh outdoor air and exhausts stale air. At the furnace, a filter captures particles, a humidifier can add moisture in winter, and a UV lamp can treat the cooling coil. 1. Ventilation brings in fresh outdoor air and removes stale air.
  2. A filter at the furnace captures selected airborne particles.
  3. Humidity control adds moisture in dry winters or removes it where it is damp.
  4. UV at the cooling coil can limit microbial growth on that surface.
  5. Regular HVAC maintenance keeps it all working as designed.
Illustrative. Most homes need only some of these, chosen for the concerns they actually have.

Humidity

Understanding indoor humidity.

Relative humidity of roughly 30% to 50% is a common general reference range for homes.

Canadian winters complicate this. When it is very cold outside, windows and exterior walls get cold too, and moist indoor air can condense on them. In cold snaps, a lower setting is often needed to avoid condensation and the moisture problems it can lead to.

In summer, the concern flips: basements in particular can run damp, and bringing humidity down helps prevent musty odours and mould.
